Notes: I am trying to recreate the rescue scene from memory. I’ve only seen it twice and I probably won’t get every word correct. But I think I got pretty close. Symbols denote unspoken thoughts.
Lee and Amanda watched as a thick white smoke filled the room from the canister their rescuer had just opened. They saw the swarm of agents enter and remove Addi from the room. Billy was heading the team. Lee warned his friend, “Billy, it’s zap gas. Better get out of here!”
“It’s okay. We’ve all been neutralized.”
Lee turned to Amanda who was sitting on the cot in the corner.
“Oh Lee, I don’t feel so good.”
“It’s okay. It’s zap gas. We won’t be able to move for a few minutes so let’s just get comfortable, hum?”
He sat down next to his partner on the cot and wrapped his arms around her. She leaned into his embrace and rested her head against his chest. He lowered his head to settle down on top of hers and together they closed their eyes and let the effects of the zap gas take them.
“Thank God, I found her. What would I do without her?”
“He found me. I knew he would. He always comes to get me.”
“It feels so good to hold her. I thought I would never get the chance to hold her again.”
“He feels so good. I always feel safe when I’m in his arms.”
“She thought she was still hallucinating when Addi threw me in here. She didn’t realize that I was real.”
“I can’t believe he’s really here. Is he really here? I’ve had some real whopper dreams since I’ve been here.”
“Please let her know that I’m real. That I love her. That I need her.”
“Oh he’s real, all right. I can hear his heart beat even now. I can’t move but I feel his arms around me. I feel his chest rising and falling under my face.”
“I’m never going to let you go Amanda King. I’m going to make you Mrs. Lee Stetson.”
“Mrs. Amanda Stetson. I like it. No, I love it.”
“Did I really just ask her to marry me? Did she really say yes?”
“He asked me to marry him. He really did. I said yes. I am going to marry Lee Stetson.”
“I love you, Amanda.”
“I love you, Lee.”
“Francine, I think they’re waking up. Get an ambulance crew in here to take care of Amanda.”
“Right Billy.” Turning, she relayed the order to the agent behind her. “So Billy, have you ever been zapped?”
“No never, why?”
“I just wondered if it was painful or not.”
Lee groaned and started to stir. Amanda whimpered slightly and sat up away from her resting place. Billy walked over and helped the pair to their feet. They spent a few minutes reorienting themselves to the situation. They then began to run down the events of the last few hours. Just before the paramedics entered to room to take Amanda to the hospital, Francine spoke.
“Uh Lee, Amanda, I was just wondering…..” Francine trailed off uncertainly.
Lee and Amanda exchanged puzzled looks then shrugged.
“What is it, Francine?” Lee spoke first.
“Well, is it uncomfortable to be zapped? I mean, not to be able to move or speak. It must be disconcerting at least.”
Amanda looked at Lee, they shared a small secret smile, and together they answered , “Not exactly!”
