Notes:  Whew.  Real life has finally slowed down enough for me to finally revise and post this.  Thanks to Kersten, whose comment on the message board brought on the idea for this story, and my wonderful betas, Beth and Kim, who made the story better than I could do on my own.

Swamped in a never-ending pile of reports and files, Lee looked up from his desk to his partner.  Amanda's hair fell softly at the side of her face and her eyebrows furrowed in concentration as she worked on her own stack of paperwork.

"Amanda," he asked, ""how would you like to come over tonight and enjoy a steak and potato?"

As Amanda looked up at Lee, a slight blush covered her soft features.  "Lee, I've been wanting to talk to you about that," she
said bashfully.  Amanda remained quiet, as if trying to figure out how to tell Lee what was on her mind.  Lee's face grew concerned, as he waited for Amanda to speak.

"Amanda, what is it?" Lee asked, his voice filled with concern.

Amanda took a deep breath and gathered her courage.  "Well, Lee, it's ...about our, um…dining habits."

"Huh?" Lee asked, thoroughly confused at her confession.

"Well, we've had dinner at your place several times in the past couple of months, and all we ever seem to have is steak and
potatoes."

She hurried on at Lee's confused look.  "It's not that you don't make an incredibly delicious steak and baked potato, but I'm getting a little tired of it.  Do you mind if maybe we have filet mignon with rice pilaf, or that Japanese dish that you made me when we first started working together?"

Lee looked at Amanda in surprise.  "That's it?"

Amanda nodded mutely in response.  Lee stood up and sauntered over to Amanda's desk.

Lee grinned at her, and perched on the edge of the desk.  "To tell you the truth, I've been getting a little tired of steak and potatoes myself.  I just thought you wanted to be like a normal couple, you know? And steak and potatoes is a 'normal' meal."

Lee leaned in a little coser to Amanda as he continued.  "I just thought you really liked that meal, being `normal' and all.  Why
don't you come over and I'll surprise you with some other culinary delight?"

Amanda silently let out a deep breath and returned Lee's grin.  "That sounds wonderful, Lee.  Even `normal' people need a little variety, don't you think?"

As Lee leaned in for a kiss, he murmured, "Maybe sometime, when we're feeling especially daring, I'll even make pasta.  You could wear that black dress with the linguini straps."

Amanda's reply was muffled as Lee's lips touched her own.  When they parted, she looked at Lee, her eyes twinkling.

"That sounds wonderful, Lee.  Except they're called spaghetti straps."

Amanda smiled as Lee gently kissed her lips again, looking forward to the delicious dinner and entertaining evening to come.
